Oribi Gorge and Pure Venom Snake Park

Oribi Gorge boasts one of the most remarkable natural paradises in the world. World renowned view sites include Baboons Castle, Lehrs waterfall, Overhanging Rock, and Lovers Leap. Hiking trails - Savour the natural beauty of the gorge on 2,5 and 9km walking trails.

One of KwaZulu-Natal's most spectacular natural settings, the scenic Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve lies some 21 km inland from Port Shepstone. Ideal for a weekend getaway or day-excursion. Oribi offers many delightful walks and self-guided trails to scenic spots in the reserve. The scenery along the gorge formed by the Umzimkulwana River is a photographer's and nature lover's paradise.

Pure Venom is Africa’s biggest and most unique reptile farm, offering a full range of indigenous and exotic reptiles. The park also has a small animal farm where the kids have the opportunity to feed rabbits, hamsters, kid goats and the like.

Phezulu Cultural Village

An African culture and game experience. The Gasa clan has over the last 30 years allowed visitors to Phezulu the opportunity to savour the taste and feel the rhythm of Africa. Visitors are taken into traditional beehive huts where the various artifacts, beliefs and rituals are explained, giving foreigners an insight into the fascinating Zulu culture. The Zulu dancing show is impressive with the dancers in their traditional garb showing off their skills with grace, agility and humor - " Unforgettable and unbelievable"

A tour of the crocodile and snake park with knowledgeable guides will ensure that guests learn interesting facts about crocodiles and snakes. Meet Junior, the 102 year old Nile crocodile and Cleo the 3.2m Burmese python.

A one hour scenic game drive on open air land rovers in the Valley of 1000 Hills will afford you the opportunity of viewing wildebeest, impala, bles-bok, zebra and giraffe in their natural habitat. Also learn about medicinal plants and herbs and take in the absolutely magnificent views.

ShakaLand

Either as a one day trip or en route to Hluhluwe game reserve or St. Lucia. This cultural village offers an African experience. A traditional Zulu welcome greets you as you enter the village. A guided tour among the beehive huts leads you to the tribal meeting place. Here you will be welcomed and hosted as an honored guest and view traditional dancing with its nuances, rituals and traditional dress. A traditional Zulu "Umuzi" or homestead, divided into the home of the Zulu's and hotel rooms. A unique resort built on the set of the movies, Shaka Zulu and John Ross.

Our newest interest: In order to offer our clients a wide variety of things to do we have linked up with Devlyn Fraser, an internationally recognised golf coach (EGTF Pro). The south coast of Kwa Zulu Natal boasts numerous excellent golf courses all within easy driving distance from Umkomaas. Left and right handed clubs for gents and ladies are available as part of your golf tour package. The golfer will find himself spoilt for choice. The area is home to no less than five superb 18 hole golf courses and these are all within 15 minutes drive.

Half days:

Crocworld

A short drive from Umkomaas takes you to Crocworld. A stunning reptile and bird park with meandering pathways that take you to different pens, areas and aviaries. Watch the crocodiles being fed and marvel at these pre historic animals. Enjoy a drink or a snack on the deck with magnificent views of the ocean. Crocworld is not just a crocodile farm; it is a complete wildlife experience offering a range of displays and activities to suit all age groups. A 30 hectare botanical garden of indigenous trees and plants, which attract a unique variety of over 200 birds. Crocworld hosts an a la carte restaurant serving traditional and exotic meals, and a curio shop for ethnic and traditional gifts. Crocworld's core industry is the farming of crocodiles for their skins and meat and houses over 10 000 crocodiles at any given time. An educational centre for scientific, technical and general knowledge on the world’s species of crocodiles and alligators.

Durban

Visit the biggest city in Kwa Zulu Natal. Enjoy the amazing spectacle of the largest aquarium in South Africa where a variety of fish and other marine life can be viewed. The brave hearted can dive or take an ocean walk with ragged tooth sharks. Stroll along the Golden Mile and shop for souvenirs and mementos. Enjoy a drink at one of the many beachfront hotels. Durban also boasts the Umgeni Bird Park, the largest Mosque in the Southern Hemisphere, the oldest Botanical Gardens in South Africa, the famous Indian Market and numerous museums.

Thekweni means "where the Earth and Ocean meet", the city centre overlooks a golden beach. It’s all about the beach in this surf friendly city. This is South Africa’s playground and its carnival atmosphere makes it great for family holidays. However, Durban is also a bustling deep sea harbor and international conferencing destination, which makes this city both a bustling hive of activity for businessmen and tourists alike. Kwazulu Natal hosts some of South Africa's most beautiful reserves, from the nature reserves of St Lucia and Drakensberg and game reserves at Mkuze and Hluhluwe-Umfolozi there is a wealth of wildlife and exquisite scenery to keep the traveler occupied and enthralled.

Umgeni River Bird Park: Perfect for Bird Watchers, Family Outings and Educational Tours

The Umgeni River Bird Park features a wide range of exhibits. There are many closed aviaries, walk-in aviaries and ponds which are home to a wide range of water birds. New exhibits are added regularly to make sure that visitors keep returning. One of the highlights of a visit to this bird park is the Free Flight Bird Show. Here the visitor gets a chance to see some of the birds’ close-up, like the Cape Vulture below, and to be entertained by an informative talk. In the middle of the bird park is the Cockatoo Cafe where one can buy light meals and other refreshments.

Drakensberg, Sani Pass and Lesotho

A scenic drive from Durban through the Kwa Zulu Natal midlands brings us to the Sani Pass. Situated near the village of Underberg and nestling in the foothills of the majestic Drakensberg (Mountain of Dragons) mountains this is the ideal place to savour one of South Africa’s national heritage sites. Walking trails into the valleys and gorges of the surrounding mountains affords you spectacular views. A photographers dream come true. Overnight stay in an upmarket accomodation. Enjoy a full day excursion into the tiny kingdom of nearby Lesotho where you have the opportunity of enjoying true African hospitality and culture.
